Description:
Gwynn & Campbell early Type 2 Civil war carbine. The overall gun is in excellent overall condition with bore that remains in excellent new or near new condition. Scarce variation that has some first model features as well as with the scare sliding lever lock. Serial number is 4264 and is numbers matching on all visible surfaces. 2 correct strong readable cartouches: large WHR in a square on the left side of stock behind the receiver, and a small WHR on the top of the comb forward of the butt plate. The receiver shows very strong bright original case colors over the entire surface with few small freckles. The screws are unturned. The butt plate shows blue turning to patina. The stock is in remarkable condition. The lock plate shows a blend of case & faded case with a little discoloration. The original nipple is pristine the writing is crisp on both the Gwynn & Campbell as well as the Union Rifle inscription. Small inspector’s marks are present in the correct locations. The barrel is a dark blue throughout with s few scratches and flacking areas. Mechanically perfect. Very rare gun in exception condition
The only flaw is the original rear sight is missing. (Reproductions are available).
