Description:

Inv. 5979

Remington U.S 1863, New Model Army, Cal. .44 Percussion, Ser 1147XX.

A really lovely example of what Flayderman describes as the most favored sidearm of both sides because of its reliability and accuracy....

This beauty, while it does only retain about 10% of the original blue, shows no wear or polishing. There is no rust or pitting anywhere. Just a very pleasnt patina is forming . The blue just appears to have fadded over the last century and a hlf.. The barrel legend and all the inspector's stamps are as they left the factory.

There are small areas that are somewhat hidden that still retain the original blue. However, the cylinder does a have a small patch of discoloration and a few tiny surface pinpricks.

All parts, the frame, cylinder and barrel match. All the correct parts have the appropriate inspectors stamp. The cylinder shows almost no evidence of use. The chambers are clean and smooth, the cylinder face is perfectly smooth with no staining and the nipples show no use.  are perfect.

The wooden grips retain about 90% of the original lacquer. They have no splits or cracks. The left panel has a few small surface dings around the screw boss and just below the final inspector's cartouche, a slight chip. The grip screws are unmarred.

The force cone shows no evidence of use and the bore is as close to factory new as possible. Mirror bright with razor sharp rifling in the truest sense of the word. There is a very small patch or two of frosting.. The gun locks up tight indexes properly and is totaly functional,, Tto those who seen it they seem to feel that it has seen very little yse.

What an attic find from upstate New York where the factory is located. I'll bet this may have been a workers "accidental" take home, who knows?..... . ***REDUCED***$1795.**REDUCED***
