Description:
This boxlock, ejector Rigby 350 #2 (#18149) is actually the very last Rigby 350 built by the company. Put into production in 1938 "for stock", it was not sold until 1952 to one of the minor maharajas who clearly hadn't realized his world had changed. Regardless, the rifle eventually found its way back to Rigby, where it sat in storage for over 20 years. Sold by us to a US customer, it joined his extensive collection of British rifles and was shot only occasionally. As a result, it's condition and bore is excellent, with strong rifling and only moderate cordite burn showing in the groves.

The rifle itself has 26" barrels and weighs 9 lbs 12 oz. The very handsome, classically grained stock measures 14 3/4" to a thin Silvers pad. It is cased in a deluxe, Best Quality dark brown case, lined in correct Rigby blue baize and outfitted with a complete complement of accessories.

The 350 #2 cartridge was Rigby's updated version of their famous 400/350 Nitro Express. It fired a 225 grain bullet at just under 2700 fps. and was one of John "Pondoro"Taylor's favorite medium bores. Denny Fitch Hatten was another famous user and preferred it to his 375 H&H due to its lighter recoil and nearly identical performance out to 150 yds.

In practice, it's actual performance is almost identical to the 9.3 X 74R. Its case dimensions are so close that most 350's have been re-chambered to that caliber, a simple process which often doesn't even require re-regulation. Cases are easily made from readily available 9.3 X 74, and loaded ammunition is sporadically available from Kynoch, as well as from a number of speciality loaders.
