Description:
Winchester Model 1897 Black Diamond Pigeon Grade Extremely Rare Damascus Barrel

Possibly in the rarest configuration I have ever seen for a Winchester Model 1897 please find this Model 1897 Trap in Pigeon Grade with Black Diamond Wood, and possibly the rarest of rare, a factory “Fine quality” four blade Damascus Steel barrel.  In 1907 these guns sold plain jane for $25.00 when new. If one were to add the Fine Damascus Steel barrel it was another $15.00. Black Diamond wood and Pigeon grade were extra as well. This gun bears serial #363039 making manufacture date 1907. The barrel is marked with 6 Patent Dates, the first being Nov 26, 1890 last is Oct 16, 1900.  Winchester proof on the barrel and receiver.  The gun locks up tight no undo slop or irregular movement.  The gun functions 100% as intended.  The bore is pretty rough with some pits and such. There is some loss of wood on the butt stock please see photos.  And yes someone added a black butt pad at some point.  The forened has a 1 ½ inch crack. It is not loose just cracked.  A good stock man could repair and permanently stabilize if so desired.  The receiver does retain some of the factory finish but as guns of this age do its now turning to nice patina.  No pitting or other issues.  The gun is factory engraved both sides and on the top and even the shell carrier is treated to excellent quality engraving.  This gun is not to be confused with guns built with fluid steel barrels.  Four Blade Damscus is an extremely rare configuration.
Lawyers and owner states for liability reasons, and we all know that we should not fire modern or any ammunition through guns with Damascus barrels.
