Description:
Serial #270476, .45-70, 32 1/2” barrel with an excellent, bright bore. This is a handsome rifle that has retained about 75-80% of the original blue on the barrel with the balance turned to a mellow, lightly freckled plum-brown patina that has also silvered and faded slightly at the muzzle. The lock and hammer have retained a similar amount of original blue with speckled gray-brown on the balance. The “MODEL 1873” marked, low arch breech has lots of original color case-hardening remaining with the balance turned to a freckled pewter gray. The walnut stock has scattered small handling marks and blemishes throughout the original military oil finish with a clear and crisp 1884 dated cartouche on the left side of the wrist. Additionally, there is a large rack or unit number stamped into the wood on the right side of the butt: “8”. The action is tight, the breech lock-up is firm, and the rifle is outfitted with an original flaked, but still serviceable, leather sling. This is a great looking Trapdoor that is in fine-excellent condition overall. Antique
