Description:
Syracuse LC Smith Grade 2, 12 Gauge, Serial # 21013. Have owned this gun for over 15 years.  Purchased from a former customer-collector who lived in Fulton, NY, former home of LC Smith Manufacturing.   He had purchased it 25 years earlier from an LC Smith employee who was a stock maker and finisher who restocked the gun sometime prior to selling it to our customer.  Metal retains 45-50% Original Case Colors on the sideplates with traces of color on the remainder of the receiver.  Barrels are a question for us even today.  They appear to have been reblued prior to the original sale to our customer.  There is no proofing on the barrels, the bores are bright with minor pitting in the right barrel and little or none in the left.  Chambers are 2 & 3/4".  No other marking on the barrels except the maker and Syracuse address, serial # in two places and the grade (2).
The Receiver has the serial #, Grade and 3 patent dates. Mar. 29, 1883, July 13, 86 and Oct. 5, 86.  Bushed firing pins.  Nice fact is no buggered screws on the gun and they appear Original.  Early style 2 Engraving.  Fore-end metal has patent date of June 1, 80.  Wood is really nice.  The Straight English Buttstock is of high quality Walnut with beautiful checkering both on the wrist area and the butt.  ( See Photos ).  Same line per inch checking on the fore-end with more wear and one small dent on the left side.  Still in Great Condition for the age.  Don't feel one could replace the buttstock for at least 2/3rds of what I am asking for the gun.  Don't know whether the barrels have been replaced with smokeless steel.  Chamber length leads me to believe they are smokeless, can't guarantee that.   They do " RING LIKE A BELL " when struck.  I would investigate that before firing smokeless loads.  Would make a Great Vintage Shooter.  No licenses needed, antique.  Thanks for Looking
