PRE-WAR BIG "N" FRAME .38-44 HEAVY DUTY REVOLVER WITH 5" BARREL MADE 1932, a Great Depression era S&W, this one has the small "star" on the butt indicating it was sent back to the factory for repairs or refinishing, but doesn't look like it was refinished as all the markings are sharp and clear, has "5 . 49" stamped in the frame under the grips indicating it was returned to the factory in May or 1949, generally fine deep blue overall with normal light holster wear/handling wear- a little on the barrel sides, edges and some dulling on the back strap, still retains some case color on the hammer and trigger, grips are correct pre-war type, but are un-numbered and probably not original even though they fit well as there is just a touch of overhang of the wood at the butt (it is my belief that most of these were law enforcement guns that their owners were proud to show off and often replaced the walnut grips with fancy stag or pearl), tight action, bright exc bore, unaltered front sight, these Depression era S&Ws have amazing hand fitted actions, forerunner of the .357 Magnum
