NEAR MINT CIVIL WAR GWYN & CAMPBELL TYPE II .52 CAL. PERCUSSION U.S. CAVALRY CARBINE. All original example with matching serial numbers in the low 2,xxx range. Retains nearly all the original blue and considerable color case hardening on the frame and lock plate. Excellent markings with the lock plate stamped “GWYN & CAMPBELL/PATENT 1862/HAMILTON, OHIO” and frame stamped “UNION/RIFLE”. Left side of frame stamped “RICHMOND, VA./C.S.A./JUNE 18,1863” which is pre period of production and is most likely a date commemorating an event of significance to an owner. Stamp appears quite old and probably dates to the late 19th Century. Excellent stock with all the original finish and a mint Government Inspector’s cartouche (“WHR”). Perfect working order and mint bore.
