CAVALRY CARBINE W/IRON PATCHBOX CIRCA 1861. Serial number in the 47,xxx range and possible 2nd Illinois Cavalry issue with many known in same serial range. All original and matching including barrel serial number. Barrel with 50-60% original blue and frame and patchbox with traces of case hardening color. Excellent markings including the patent dates on the lock plate and frame. Government Inspector’s marks on the left side of barrel at the breech and faint but visible cartouche on the stock near the ring bar. Mint bore and perfect working order. Low survival rate and highly sought after. Saw service in the entire war and was still in service during the Indian Wars. Only Model 1859 we have had in several years with the iron patchbox.
