Description:
Spencer "Buffalo" rifle, sn 60391, caliber 52-56. Heavy octagon barrel, 29 1/2" in length, 1 1/8" across flats. Stamped J. P. Gemmer, who worked for the Hawken Brothers in St. Louis and eventually bought the company. It has the typical two wedge key forearm found on the heavy caliber Hawkens. Very good bore, of the many Spencers I've owned, this one is the most accurate. Centerfire conversion and cartridges available. Spencer and Sharps rifles were the main rifles used in the bison killings. I would love to know this rifle's history.
