WWI or WW1 GERMAN MODEL 1898 OR M1898 QUILLBACK NEW MODEL OR 2ND PATTERN GEWEHR 98 BAYONET & SCABBARD. Ricasso stamped "C.G. Haenel Suhl" and back of blade with Wilhelm II cypher over "07" for 1907 manufacture. Sharpened edge over 20 1/2" blade and original patina. Two piece wood grip panels excellent held by rivets. Never cleaned and old patina througout. No losses to wood. Original leather and steel scabbard with mint stitching and staples holding hardware. Crosspiece stamped "119.R.3.40" which stands for the 119th Regiment, 3rd Kompanie, weapon no. 40. This unit fought througout WWI especially in the battle of Passchendaele, the first and second battle of the Somme and others. Fun history that needs further research. Nice grouping.
