WWI OR WW1 GERMAN MODEL 1898 OR 1898/05 FOR GEWEHR 98 PIONEER SAWBACK BUTCHER BAYONET & SCABBARD BY ALEX COPPEL. 14 1/2" sawback blade with original false edge. Crisply struck Alex Coppel, Solingen on ricasso. Correct crown proofs on back of blade with 1916 date "16". Never cleaned with original patina. Solid two piece original grip panels. Flashguard. Excellent rivets. Quillon. Excellent original steel scabbard with original finish mixed with patina. Brought back from Europe after WW2 by Aircrewman and given to his daughter who we got it from. Nice untouched example. The sawback versions were issued to Pioneer units and machine gun squads.
