.451 caliber, #342, 20 inch barrel, excellent bore (8 grooves), 90% plum blue metal overall, wood is excellent with a "fracture" at left wrist, some scattered oxidation, retains nipple collar, no chain, excellent mechanically, top of breech door marked "Westley Richards/Patent", lock plate marked "Westley Richards & Co/1861", no ring on sling bar, ram rod may be a replacement.
Though never officially adapted by the British army, these carbines were widely used by the Yeomanry. They were also favored by the Boers of South Africa.
