Description:
Offered for your consideration is this fine antique Marlin 1895 in 40-65 WCF caliber. Made in 1898 it has a full 26 inch octagon barrel with a very good+ bore. The rifling is prominent and sharp with very light frost in the grooves. I rate the bore a strong 8 on a 1 to 10 scale and should be a fine shooter. It is marked "Special Smokeless Steel". The barrel retains traces of plum blue. The original Marlin German silver front blade and sporting rear sights are in very nice condition. The receiver retains traces of case color in protected areas but mostly silvered out. The action cycles crisply and locks up tight with no evidence of excessive wear. I have not test fired the rifle. The stock and forearm are tight and solid, no bad dents, chips or extra holes. The finish has no doubt had an additional coat of laquer but the wood stands proud over the metal and hasn't been sanded. The wrist looks to have been reinforced in the past, nice professional job that's very difficult to see. It is tight and solid with no issues. The 1895 Marlin was manufactured to compete with the Winchester 1886 and was in production for only a few years. This is a vintage 1895 Marlin that's hard to find in this nice condition!
