General Specs: LC Smith, Year 1940, 16 Gauge, 6lbs 15oz, Side-by-Side Serial Number: 184836 Here we have a very common gun---they made over 38,000 Field Grade 16ga. guns! However, only 3,400 of them had ejectors. So when we talk value on vintage American double guns, rarity certainly is a big issue. On par with rarity in determining value is the amount of factory finishes remaining. This is where this gun stands ahead of 99.5% of the 3,400 made. IT RETAINS VIRTUALLY ALL OF ITS ORIGINAL FACTORY FINISHES AND IS LIKELY ONE OF THE BEST EXAMPLES OF AN UNMOLESTED FIELD GRADE ELSIE I HAVE EVER SEEN. Serial number 184836 left the Hunter Arms factory in 1940 during the times the guns still were still being made to the strictest standards. The gun has most desirable 28" barrels factory choked IC/F with mirror bores and the Single Sighting Plane rib that sights like an over/under with the side by side barrels not in the sight picture, 14 LOP to the factory butt plate, crisp double triggers, tight on hinge and breech face like the new gun it is. The gun has been in the field and the wood finish has a few minor marks in it, but hey, the gun is 76 years old! Look at the screws, the wood to metal fit, the checkering...it all screams "UNTOUCHED". If you ever wondered what a new L.C. Smith looked like, what it looked like in your collection, and to take afield to pursue the upland game it was made for, this is the gun. As time goes by, there will be fewer original guns ever encountered in this condition. This is an investment grade firearm and worth the premium price we are asking for it. An old friend who has now passed used to say "Where you ever going to find another one?" You won't find one like this any time soon. Don't miss the chance to own this one. Thanks for looking.
