EXCEPTIONAL CONTEMPORARY FLINTLOCK LONGRIFLE IN THE STYLE OF FREDERICK SELL OF YORK, PENNSYLVANIA. 62” o/a with 44” octagon .45 caliber rifled barrel signed in script on a brass panel “FREDERICK SELL”. Fancy tiger maple full length stock profusely raised carved in the manner of Frederick Sell with motifs from various of his better known and published rifles. Engraved brass butt plate and patch box with “EAGLE” finial. Engraved silver oval thumb plate and cheek rest inlay. Ornate engraved silver wedge escutcheons. And silver engraved ramrod pipes. Hickory ramrod. Double set triggers and platinum lined touch hole. Excellent overall with all the brown on the lock and barrel and all the stock finish. There is a crack in the forend at the front of the ramrod thimble and the mainspring needs replacing. Triggers in working order and has a mint bore. Exceptionally fine example of carving and engraving. With motifs by one of the greatest of all American makers.
