Benjamin Mills was a well known gun maker that spent most of his career building rifles in Harrodsburg, Kentucky. After the Civil War he moved his business from Harrodsburg to Lexington, Kentucky and continued to build rifles, shotguns, and pistols. Most of his firearms were muzzle loaders, and this is one of the few breechloaders that we have seen. It is chambered for the .32 rimfire cartridge which was one of the first cartridges available. It has had a repair to the wrist of the stock and the break-down action is a bit loose, but it is fully functional. This is an interesting rifle that illustrates a transition of a famous Kentucky rifle maker to the cartridge era.
