Description:
If you are looking for a pre-war Rigby 416, this is about as close as you will get. It is the very last of the bench-made, Roberts Rigby's, made during the transition of ownership of the company to SIG/Sauer/Mauser. This particular rifle was ordered and built for a former Director of the old London-based firm and replicates, millimeter by millimeter, what many believe to be the finest pre-war Rigby 416. That rifle was built by Rigby in 1929 for the Raja of Dunlod (Jaipur family) and now resides in the Rigby Collection in London.

This rifle was built on an all new, modern Square Bridge Magnum Mauser that exactly duplicates it's pre-war predecessor which weighs 10 lbs 4 oz. The deep action and belly magazine box holds a full four rounds with enough latitude to feed a fifth "up the spout" from the magazine. The safety is of the original swing over style and engraved SAFE in gold on the appropriate side.
While unfired since leaving the maker, it was throughly tested and feeds and shoots flawlessly. The iron sights are set to shoot Hornday solids 2" high at 50 yds from its 26" barrel. The rear sights (one standing, two folding) are mounted on an integral, flat rib, exactly as with the original. The front sight is mounted on an invisible sleeve and features an enamel moon sight, again exactly as the original.

In keeping with the theme of exactly coping the original, this rifle is engraved with only the makers name and address on the barrel, "RIGBY'S SPECIAL 416 BORE FOR BIG GAME on the breech and the serial number (10390) in gold on the trigger guard. The one exception to the original is the stock (14 3/4" X 1 3/4" X 2 1/4"). While copied exactly in all its dimensions except length (it's ~1/2" longer), the wood chosen for this very special, last Roberts made Rigby, is exhibition grade, true French walnut, made from a blank put away over 20 years ago by the former Company Director for just such a project.

The rifle is cased in a traditional green canvas case with a full complement of accessories, including turnscrews, a horn handled cleaning rod, a crocodile embossed cleaning jag wallet, a carrying sling, and two beautiful, hand made reproduction metal 30's style oil and cleaning fluid bottles. Space has been left in the case to fit a scope, should one be fitted in the future.

This rifle can not be compared to the current, machine made Rigby 416's - - entirely adequate though they may be -- and is substantially less than their London Model, bench made rifles which "start at £20,000". Plus this rifle is already here, duty paid and ready for immediate delivery
