RARE PAIR OF JOHN MANTON & SON PERCUSSION OFFICER’S DUELLING OR DUELING PISTOLS SERIAL NUMBER 10904, CIRCA 1840. .66 caliber smoothbore octagon 8” barrels engraved in script “JOHN MANTON & SON DOVER STREET, LONDON. Engraved blued steel mounts and case hardened engraved locks. Original percussion Manton breeches with Patent Manton platinum plugs with the locks engraved below the bolsters “PATENT”. Lock plates engraved “MANTON & SON” as well. Engraved hammers with sliding safeties. Engraved and blued trigger guards with the tangs serial numbered “10904”.Walnut horn tipped half stocks with original checkering and silver escutcheons and wrist plate. Original brass tipped rosewood ramrods. All original in every respect. Hammers in original condition with no repairs. Horn forend tips with slight damage and loss on the right side of both pistols. Excellent condition as found and not restored in any way. Some brown Damascus finish on the barrels and the mounts with original blue and patina mix. Stocks with the original finish. Working order and very good bores. Only a very few pairs of Manton pistols appear on the market each year and with the Manton name much in demand they disappear quickly. Newly found and never on the market before.
