Description:
Serial #1011, .303 British, 21” barrel with a good bore that has dark freckling within the grooves. This is a 1901 dated carbine with “VR” cypher and Enfield maker's mark that has about 70-75% blue remaining with a mostly dark plum-brown patina mottled with spots of pinprick pitting. There is some gray fading and silvering along many of the exposed edges and surfaces as well as some dark patches of pitting along the breech end of the barrel (which has extensive military and civilian Birmingham proofs, as well as a small “DP” drill purpose marking on the knox form). The matching numbered bolt ihas a mostly pitted gray patina along the dust cover and there is some mild freckling along the bolt handle and bolt head. The wrist has crisp original markings on the left side while the right has “N^Z/646/1901” deeply stamped into the metal. The walnut stock, forend, and handguard have been cleaned and have an added varnish over numerous small handling marks and minor blemishes throughout, however the “T8” mark on the right side of the forearm is still legible, as is the “79” on the stock disk. An original, chained magazine is included as well. This is a desirable New Zealand-used L.E.C. that rates very good plus condition overall and would make a great addition to any collection of British Empire and Commonwealth longarms. {Ref.
