Description:
The Colt Python 4" Full lug barrel stainless steel revolver we have listed is a very rare cutaway that the very famous Jerry Kuhnhausen produced for the publication of the Colt DA Revolver Shop Manual, Volume 1. The rare cutaway shows internal workings of the Colt Python and appears several times in the book. We have done extensive research and to our knowledge there is not another Python stainless cutaway in existence; letter from Colt truly indicates the rarity of this piece! Very few people had access to Colt like Mr Kuhnhausen had over the years. As you know he is very well known not just for his being a renowned gunsmith but more likely for his publications that detailed Colt, Smith and Ruger handguns that will probably never be covered like he did prior to his passing. Sadly he is no longer with us. Based on telephone conversations we had with Colt historians they did not know of any other stainless Colt Pythons that were ever produced whether that was in the shop or in by others like Jerry. Colt did make reference that they did produce a few cutaways but those were in blue and were amazed that we had this in the shop. Per letter from Colt, they shipped the frame directly to Jerry Kuhnhausen. Mr Kuhnhausen's shop / FFL had a License name of "Kuhnhausen, Jerry L" with the FFL Trade name as "VSP Publishers Gunsmithing". According to Colt, they often shipped him parts and frames for reference. Colt also noted that the frame was originally on loan to be returned to the shop, but once he completed the materials for the book he requested to keep the cutaway and a transaction of purchase was completed. A fine conversation piece that is highly collectible in Colt 150th year box and grips! Serial is T72735.
