Description:
This is a 16 gauge take-down model 97, made in October, 1905. It has a 26 inch matted-rib barrel choked improved modified (it does show the word FULL on the barrel just in front of the receiver), and still retains its 2 1/2 inch chamber. The bluing is only about 40%, the bore is very good and the wood is at least a grade or two above what is usually seen. That, along with the German silver medallion on the right side of the stock (the initials JCC), says that it may have been a presentation gun, or possibly a prize in a shooting competition. Hard to say.  The Cody Letter does show exactly these specs including the "JC" in the stock. Length of pull is 13 5/8 inches and the weight is just shy of 8 pounds. The action is sound and the gun functions as Winchester intended. Please call me rather than trying to e-mail. I seem to have misplaced the teenager who usually works the computer. SOLD, Thank you.
