Mod., nicely figured original English walnut stock with a 14" LOP over original horn butt, 1 5/8" DAC, 2 1/8" DAH, 1/4" cast off, splinter forend, straight grip, double triggers, 6 lbs. 12, extractor, backaction and rounded action with fine scroll engraving, both backplates of  action engraved "Holland & Holland ", left side of action engraved "Climax Safety Action", automatic safety with "Safe" in gold, vacant stock oval, forend has lever or "grip" catch seen mostly on Rigby guns, Scott patent gas checks.  Patent no. 761 issued in 1878 to W.M. Scott & T. Baker typically associated with W&C Scott which was one of the first hammerless sidelock patents and was quickly taken up by Holland and after adapting and improving it, marketed it as the "Climax Safety Hammerless Gun" in 1879.  This gun shows the "761" patent mark on the water table along with use number "1401".  Even after Holland develooped and marketed their Royal model, they continued to market the Climax gun.  In a Holland 1890 catalogue, the Royal was sold for 50 Guineas and the Climax at 35 Guineas.  Very good condition with some cosmetic shortcomings on the barrel blue, tight and sound, clean and excellent bores at .730 and .730  with .026 and .029 min. wall thickness.
