L.C. Smith quality 4, 10 ga. Made by L.C. Smith, Syracuse, N.Y, Ca. 1880’s . exact dates do not exist on these early Syracuse guns. 32” Damascus bls. Choked cyl & cyl. Bls Bls inside very good. Bls have been rebrowned by Buck Hamlin and showw excellent fine damascus pattern. 3” chambers, w/extractor. Metal on frame and locks silver/gray with some minor freckling. No pitting. Sharp engraving featuring 2 grouse on left lock and 2 woodcock on either side of an oak tree stump on the right lock. I’ve never seen a pattern like the right lock, very well done. Scattered scroll engraving at back, forward and at top of locks. Sculpted breech balls w/ beautiful scroll patterns on top, bottom, opening lever and sides of frame. Trig. Guard nicely engraved w/setter in an oval w/scroll on either side. Wood on forearm and stock is very high quality circasion walnut, very professionaly refinished w/recut 32 line checkering, correct pattern. No cracks, breaks, or missing wood. Original buttplate showing [ L.C. Smith Trap Gun and dog w/ falling duck] . Brass name plate in bottom of stock. Stock has not been cut and shows slightl curve at butt to accommodate butt plate. This is a high quality Syracuse gun showing the abilities of early gunmaking artists. Great addition to any serious Smith collector. Call me any time for any further questions.
