Description:
This is a Whitney, Whitneyville Armory, Kennedy Rifle. These were made from 1879-1886. This rifle is 44-40 WCF. This is considered a small caliber rifle at that time. I looked this rifle up on the Eli Whitney Musuem online. The rifle is listed on their by serial# K-78. The states that some of these rifles had a problem with the patend date the die actually broke during manufacture. So it may look like the patend date is worn but it was never there in the first place. The bore is pitted---and the barrel is 24". I dropped the price because the bore has some issues.
