Payment Types Accepted: cash, check, Description: This pair of Purdey Beasley self-openers was made at the end of 1881 and delivered to a gentleman named Mr. Howard in Feb. 1882, originally as extractor guns. Peter Blaine, of Purdey's told me that at that time this was fairly common, and at some point they were returned to Purdey's to add ejectors, which they retain today. In the 1960's they were both nitro proved at 3 tonnes. At some time between these two dates they ended up in the possession of The Earl of Guilford, Waldershare Park, Dover. This is borne out by the medallion on the case lid. Also in both butt-stocks are gold ovals with the initials "AJG". They are 12 gauge, still with 2 9/16 chambers. The damascus barrels measure 29 1/2 inches and are choked about .029" in each barrel. The weight of each gun is right at 6 pounds 8 ounces loaded. Length of pull on each is 14 1/4 inches and the drop is 1 3/16 inches each. They are cased with a full compliment of tools and are in extremely fine condition throughout. There is no evidence of any "gunsmithing" as is often found ond old guns. They both shoot perfectly and are a joy to carry in the field. Not to mention they are serious grouse killers.
