Description:
Peabody Connecitcut Militia 45-70 rifle. This is a rare combination that is not often found. An antique militia rifle with the issue triangular bayonet and SCABARD. It has a 33" barrel with Henry rifling that is strong, but a little dark. A good shootable bore. Peabody made about 2000 of these guns for Connecticut and it is so marked on a small plate on the bottom of the stock where the rear sling swivel would usually go. These guns were made without any provision for a sling. US Military Peabodys are rare as most were made for Foreign governments, such as; Spain, Canada, Switzerland, France, Roumania and Turkey. The rifle has the usual patina for a gun of this age and the usual dings and scratches on the wood.
