Description:
***   SOLD PENDING FUNDS   ***   A beautiful Luigi Franchi Imperiale 12 gauge pigeon gun made in Brescia Italy in 1939 with fantastic engraving and two sets of barrels. Cased in a canvas and leather fitted case. A classic and great handling custom Italian pigeon gun great for live birds, game and clays. The strong action has a hidden third fastener and bushed dished strikers. It is equipped with automatic ejectors and double triggers with articulated front trigger. The action has full coverage best quality scroll engraving with a pigeon engraved on the trigger guard. Overall weight is 7lb 6oz.   ***   The 28-1/2”(72cm) ejector barrels are chambered for 2-3/4” shells and have automatic ejectors and a solid tapered crosshatched rib with large silver front bead. The first set of barrels is set up for pigeons and is bored 0.729 and has a constriction of 0.042 in the right barrel for a Full choke. The left barrel is also bored 0.729 and has a constriction of 0.042 for Full choke. The bluing is in very good condition with just a little wear near the muzzles. The second set of barrels were made by the factory and fitted to the gun in 1949. This set of barrels is ideal for clays or game. The right barrel is bored 0.724 and has a constriction of 0.005 for Skeet choke. The left barrel is bored 0.724 with a constriction of 0.015 for Light Modified choke. This set of barrels shows slight bluing wear near the muzzles but noticeable bluing wear about 6 inches from the breech which I believe was caused by the use of an ill fitting leg o’ mutton case in the field. The bores on both sets of barrels are shiny and bright.   ***   This Franchi Imperiale is stocked in a nicely figured tiger striped walnut. It is configured with straight grip and splinter forearm. The stock is checkered in the flat top diamond style and is in good shape. There are a few handling marks on the buttstock and a small professionally done repair to the right lower horn. Stock dimensions are 14-1/8” over a 7/8” rubber pad by 1-3/8” by 1-3/4”. Neutral cast.   ***   This classic Italian sidelock with gorgeous engraving handles like a dream and with its two sets of barrels is ready for any kind of shooting. A terrific buy! Don’t let it get away. Buyer is responsible for all shipping, insurance and related charges. I give a three-day non-firing inspection and will only accept returns if gun is not as described.   ***   See this beautiful gun and other fine doubles in the MacNab booth at The Southern Side-By-Side at Deep River Sporting Clays in Sanford, NC on April 28th – 30th, 2017.
