Description:
Smith. SOLD Poultney & Trimble Civil War Percussion Carbine. .50 Cal. 21 5/8" part octagon barrel. With an excellent bore. Barrel finish is excellent retaining about 95% original blue with a crisp "LRF" inspectors mark on left barrel flat. The barrel  frame shows some very good mottled case hardening, around 40%, the balance a smoky mottled case-hardened patina. The frame itself is primarily a mottled pewter grey. The buttstock frame shows excellent original pale niter blue with hammer and lower tang a grey brown, with pitting on the bow of the guard. The smooth walnut buttstock rates near excellent with only light dings and handling marks and two very good left side cartouches. The forearm is in a similar state of condition. . The barrel is appropriately numbered to the barrel frame and the frame proper. The saddle ring is in place on the left side of the frame. The top spring has faded to grey. Lock up is tight and the action is crisp. A very good to fine example overall. Serial # 78XX
