Description:
Serial #2860407, .30-06, 24” barrel with a very good, bright bore that has some mild freckling within the grooves. This rifle was manufactured in 1944 and has a “2-S-A-5-44” dated barrel with correct period Springfield parts throughout. The metal retains 75-80% original parkerizing throughout with spots of discoloration and areas of moderate-heavy pitting scattered about. There is gray fading on the bearing surfaces of the “D28287-19SA” bolt and unmodified “D35382 9 SA” op-rod. Some mild fading and pitting is also present along the exposed edges and projections, and some further pitting is present at the muzzle as well. The walnut stock has an “SA/E” Springfield Armory rebuild cartouche on the left side with scattered light handling marks and blemishes that carry over onto the matching finish handguards. A hand-applied rack number “8” is scratched into the butt of the pistol grip. The rifle is missing the end cap of the locking bar rear sight. This is a nice wartime production rifle that is in good plus condition overall with many correct period parts. FFL or C&R
