Description:
William Evans 12 Gauge Boxlock Shotgun
1899, LONDON QUALITY FIT & FINISH, AS NEW, GORGEOUS!

General Specs: William Evans, Year 1899, 12 Gauge, 6lbs 8oz, SxS
Serial Number: 4520

William Evans is and was a prestigious London gunmaker beginning in 1883 when he opened shop.  He began his career in firearms working for Purdey’s and Holland & Holland prior to going out on his own.  He made it his trademark to only produce the FINEST QUALITY GUNS, whether boxlock or sidelock, rifle or shotgun.  This fine example of his turn-of-the-century work is a fine boxlock gun built in 1899 sn 4520.  There are LOTS OF ENGLISH BOXLOCK 12 BORES ON THE MARKET, but this gun does stand out.  The engraving is superbly executed fine English scroll still sharp and perfectly clear covering about 70% of the frame and trigger guard.  The English style stock and finely shaped splinter forend are nicely figured with perfect wood-to-metal fit, perfect checkering, drop points, and a fine Purdey style leather covered pad, with a LOP of 15 1/8”.  The 28” barrels are modern proofed post 1989 for 2 ¾” shells, have perfect mirror bores, finely struck barrels with 100% London quality blue choked LM right barrel, IC left barrel (for incoming driven birds?), sharp lettering and engraving, just perfect.  Weighing a pleasant 6 1/2lbs. and balanced perfectly on the hinge pin, this is a very fast, dynamic London Best.  The entire gun presents as new, the recipient of a London quality restoration no doubt.  The screws are all excellent, the finishes authentic, a superb London double ready for your desires in the field or on the clays course.  The cost of restoring this gun would exceed our asking price so the gun is FREE!  There is a good bit of cast off on the gun so if you need less we hot-oil bend stocks right here in our shop within a week or so of purchase, so let us know if you need some alterations.  This is a stunning, affordable London boxlock with rich history and a very respected name in the fine gun world.  William Evans still operates from its London address it has occupied since WWII.  It is a few doors down from where it had been in business when this gun was built.  A fine and lasting reputation indeed!  Thanks for looking.
