SCARCE SHARPS-BORCHARDT MODEL 1878 SINGLE SHOT .45-70 CAL. MILITARY RIFLE WITH 9TH PENN. VOLS. REGT. MARKING. 32” round barrel with ‘OLD RELIABLE” trademark and “SHARPS RIFLE CO. BRIDGEPORT, CONN.” barrel address. Factory Lawrence Patent rear sight and original military block front sight that accepts the Model 1873 Trapdoor bayonet.Frame stamped “BORCHARDT PATENT/SHARPS RIFLE CO. BRIDGEPORT, CONN./U.S.A.” on the left side and stamped “P V/ 9” for the 9th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry Regiment. Original and scarce with only about 6800 manufactured in all with several foreign government contracts. Desirable caliber and nice with Pennsylvania markings. 90% barrel blue and traces of blue mixed with patina on the frame. Original stock and forend with old Arsenal finish with minor dings and a slight chip out of the heel of the stock at the juncture of the butt plate. Perfect working order and very good bore with well defined rifling. With cleaning rod.
