Description:
#4986 Colt S/A “U.S. Cavalry” 7-1/2”x45COLT, 116XXX(1885) serial range, D.F.C. inspected. This is a very, VERY fine mid-Indian Wars era military issued Colt that is complete with a near excellent 1881 Cavalry holster with the 1896 six-rivit alteration. I’m pretty sure that this handsome revolver has had some extremely well-done old restorations, the non-cartouched civilian style wood grips being the most noticeable. The blue looks to possibly having had some “fogging” of blue and the faded casecolor, while looking 100% correct, is most likely a very old color restoration as well. The former owner suggested that this revolver MAY have been partially restored back in the late 1970s or early 1980s by the premier Colt restorer, Tommy Haas, Sr. If this is true, then the grips must have been changed along the way, since Haas would NEVER have used such an incorrect looking set; he was an absolute master at his trade. But regardless of who did the work, it is a VERY fine revolver and holster. If this Colt was totally 100% original, this set would be upwards of $20,000. But I bought it as having been a possible upgrade and am selling it as such ….and thus it is a great set and a real bargain at $6950. I have more photos, mostly of the holster, but I've overshot my limit on the revolver. If interested, I can email you all the holster pix. About “Fine+” as described.
