While awaiting trial for his outlaw crimes Frank wrote many letters to his wife from his jail cell in Gallatin MO. This is a single letter cover postdated "Gallatin / Sept. / 27 / 1883". In fine condition the letter cover is addressed to Franks wife Annie. The letter has been lost somewhere down the line but the envelope has Franks first and middle initials and last name "A.F. James", for Alexander Franklin James, penned in old iron ink written in his own hand, the same hand that fired his Remington revolver killing who knows how many people over his 21 years as a gunfighter, as one associate of the James' was once overheard saying "Make no mistake, Frank James is a gunfighter". The cover includes an August, 2013 issue of Wild West magazine with a great illustrated article on Frank James. One page has illustrations relating to his surrender and trial with a rare image of an artists sketch of Frank James at the time of his trial at the Gallatin, MO., murder trial.
