Antique 1830-1865 Allen & Thurber Bar Hammer Pepperbox
First American Double Action Revolving Pistol
Here we present an antique Allen & Thurber Bar Hammer Pepperbox percussion pistol. Made from 1830-1865, these pistols enjoyed even greater popularity than Sam Colt’s first pistol. The history that these pistols enjoyed over the years is astounding: the Seminole Wars, Gold Rush, Mexican War and American Civil War. These guns are true relics of American history.
This pistol features a 3.25 inch barrel marked “Allen & Thurber/Worcester”, a bag shaped handle, and a nipple shield, with light engraving on the frame and shield. The barrel is also marked “Patented 1837 Cast-Steel”. Will hold 6 shots of .32. All the numbers match, inside and out. This is one of the best conditioned examples that I have yet seen. Engraving and stamping is very clear and crisp, and the wood shows very little handling. Perfect for a collection.
A note to collectors: these pistols were made in at least 50 different variations, making this an excellent area to start collecting.
