Antique Pattern 1853 Enfield Musketoon Artillery
Crimean War & American Civil War
Here we present an antique Pattern 1853 Enfield Musketoon, made 1862 in England. The Pattern 1853 was utilized by the English during the Crimean War, during the Indian Mutiny, and the New Zealand Land Wars. This pattern was also imported by the Confederacy during the American Civil War.
The musketoon variant was largely issued to artillery troops, but was also handy on horseback for the cavalry, and was favored by the South as such. The only long arm that surpassed the Enfield in number during the Civil War was the Northern Springfield Model 1861.
This musketoon is in good overall condition. The stock and brass fittings show signs of heavy use, the wood stock shows usual handling marks and a very clear Enfield acceptance mark. The barrel and lock are in good condition, the barrel showing proof marks on the left side and a bayonet lug on the right side. The rear sight is graduated out to 300 yards with flip up leaves. The nipple is in good condition. Overall, this is a great specimen with a lot of significant world history behind it.
