Description:
A.H. FOX PLAY GUN WITH ORIGINAL BOX, SHELLS, AND WOODEN BALLS, AS FOUND

Between 1905 and WWII, the A.H. Fox Gun Co. created what many would consider to be the finest American double shotgun ever made.  As the years progressed the company began manufacturing other items for the American consumer including automobiles, fishing reels, and a few different models of toy guns.  This is one of the early toy guns or “PLAY GUN” as it was labeled prior to the Savage buy-out in late 1929.  Any serious Fox gun collector may have interests in the company’s offerings beyond their guns, either to display in their gun room and/or to increase their investment in these rare items made by a grand early American manufacturer.  You do see these toy guns come up for sale on occasion but rarely in the original box with the original shells and ball projectiles.  These patented items are shown in the photos.  What the designers were able to do when inventing this cool little gun was to recreate the reality of “dad’s gun” by making them a top lever, break action gun that would actually shoot a spring loaded projectile, bringing great joy to its recipient.  Even the antique toy collector places great value on complete sets such as this one.  The entire gun is made out of sheet metal and wood…no plastic here.  The box is in excellent condition for its age with bright cheerful colors and graphics.  There are a few splits in the cardboard that are taped with clear plastic packing tape from the inside only to stabilize the areas that show splits or cracks.  There has been no refurbishing or restorative work on the gun at all and it is in “as found” condition.  This is a truly rare find and one of those opportunities to put something unique into your gun room or add an iconic American gun maker’s product to your antique toy collection.  Either way it is a historic item worthy of investment and display.  Thanks for looking.
