Description:
PRICE REDUCTION SALE -  This is a very unusual Colt SAA.  It originally left the factory in 1917 as a 5.5 inch SAA.  At some point in time it went back to Colt where it was updated, fitted with a factory Colt 12 inch Buntline barrel, updated with a 2nd gen hammer and cylinder, and refinished to factory specifications. This service was available from Colt on up through the 1960's.  Regretfully, Colt does not maintain records on guns received back for custom work. But, the revolver bears the customary Colt rework markings. The revolver has 99% blue, 100% case colors, and an unusual pair of one piece grips (see photos) that appear to be rosewood, which are also 100%.  Not a screw has been turned on this Colt since refinish by Colt.  Hammer & cylinder were updated to 2nd Generation at time of Colt rework. Cylinder has only the faintest semblance of a line which does not go through the finish.  In addition, this 12 inch Buntline was acquired and is sold with a period Arvo Ojala custom made Buntline holster.  For those of you who are not familiar with Arvo Ojala please google him. He taught and furnished most of hollywood with fast draw instruction and supplied their guns and holsters. There was hardly a western that did not feature his holsters or an actor who had received his instruction.  In the beginning of "Gunsmoke" it is actually Arvo Ojala (as a double to Matt Dillon) who draws and shoots the bad guy, and not James Arness. This revolver originally acquired with the Ojala custom holster, was probably intended for use by one of Hollywood's Western Actors, or may even have been used in one or more westerns of the time.  The custom grip shape is a mystery, appearing to be for a left hand shooter, but may help in further research as to the origin or intended use for this outfit.  Period Arvo Ojala holsters are also very much in demand. A wonderful 12 nch buntline Colt for the shooter or collector.
