Here we present an antique Springfield Model 1863 Type II Rifle Musket, made by Springfield Armory in 1864. The Model 1863 was the single-most utilized long arm of the American Civil War. It was also the last muzzle-loading long arm adopted and produced by the U.S. Shortly after the war, the U.S., like many other militaries over the world, had many surplus muskets to convert to breech-loaders. Many of the M1863 were converted.
