Description:
Serial #76194, .36 Caliber, 7 1/2” octagon barrel with a fine bore that has mild freckling within the grooves. This is an 1857 manufactured, third type revolver that has all-matching numbers, including the wedge and cylinder arbor, with the barrel retaining traces of the original bright blue at the breech, as well as along the underside flat. The balance has turned to a smooth, freckled, pewter gray brighter gray and silvering along the edges and projections. The cylinder is mostly a mottled pewter gray with some light pitting at the chamber mouths, but the safety pins are still present, and distinct. The naval scene blends into the patina, but is almost all there with a few faint areas. The frame is likewise mostly a lightly freckled gray color but there is still about 60-70% of the original color case-hardening still visible, as well as on the protected areas of the loading lever. The trigger guard and gripstrap have a mostly pale yellow-ochre patina with some traces of the original silver remaining, and the walnut grip is in good-very good with some of the original piano varnish remaining, numerous small handling marks, and a short crack and chip at the heel on the right side. The lock-up is exceptionally tight and the mechanism functions flawlessly. This is a really nice Model 1851 Navy that has a lot of the original color case-hardened finish remaining, and is in fine overall condition. Antique
