Antique Whitneyville No. 1 Spur Trigger Revolver .22 Short
Mint Condition Revolver from Eli Whitney’s Arms Company
Here we present an antique Whitneyville No. 1 Spur Trigger Revolver in .22 rimfire short. Only about 3500 of these were made circa 1870s. Whitneyville Armory was founded by Eli Whitney Sr., inventor of the famous cotton gin, in 1798. His son, Eli Whitney Jr. took over the business in the mid-19th century.
The No. 1 is chambered for .22 rimfire short and holds 7 of the tiny cartridges in the short-fluted cylinder. Like many other spur trigger revolvers of the time, this was designed to be a handy little pocket pistol. You could always have it with you and it had just enough firepower to get one out of most garden-variety scrapes. This represents a type of pistol that was very popular in the late 1800s, both in Western boomtowns and big Eastern cities.
This specimen is in excellent condition. All nickel finish is intact. The case colors on the hammer and trigger are also nearly perfect. Wood grips are in fine condition. All markings are crisp and clear. Serial numbers match. Bore is excellent. Action is excellent. This gun is like new. This gun appears to be unfired and stored in a prime environment for the last 140 years. Here is a prime collector’s item that would be perfect for shooting.
