Antique English I. Mortimer Flintlock Pistol
Late 18th Century British Flintlock
Here we present an antique English Flintlock Pistol, made circa late 1700s, early 1800s by I. Mortimer. There were several British gun makers with the last name of Mortimer from the mid-1700s to the mid-1800s. One was Harvey Walklate Mortimer, gun maker to his majesty the king, and the other was Thomas Mortimer and his son in Edinburgh. Relation of I. Mortimer is unknown, but not out of the realm of possibility. This is the kind of pistol and officer of the British Army may have purchased for himself around the time of the American Revolutionary War and the War of 1812.
This specimen is a large bore, military or combat style single shot flintlock pistol. It is in fine condition and includes a ramrod that matches the stock nicely. The barrel bears Birmingham proofs. The lock bears the maker’s name. Bore is in very good condition. Barrel and lock have a nice, dark patina. Wood stock is solid and in very good condition.
This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.
Barrel is 9-1/8 inches in length.
Caliber: .65
Bore is smooth in good condition. The firearm is in excellent working order.
