Description:
44 RF cal. Usual configuration with 24 inch octagon bbl that has integral magazine made in March 1863 during the height of the Civil War. Receiver and buttplate tang are beautifully engraved with about full coverage flowing foliate and floral arabesque patterns with fine pearled background on sides and side plates. Matching patterns extend over top of receiver, top tang and on buttplate tang is believed to be the work of master engraver Samuel J. Hoggson. Receiver and buttplate are gold washed. Very rare rosewood stocks are in good lightly freshened condition, extremely few are known of today. Barrel and mag tube are an antique brown patina. Bore has good shine with light scattered roughness and deep rifling. Receiver retains about 20% of the original gold wash and the buttplate has about the same. Traces of case color remain on hammer. Action is good. The right side of the stock is inlaid with an oval silver plate. An interesting old Henry rifle that was inspected by Oliver Winchester himself.
