Description:
Matching Pair of Antique English I. Bastard Queene Anne Percussion Pistols

With Silver, Wizened Faces on Pommels

Here we present an antique Pair of English Queene Anne Pistols, made in the late 18th century in Birmingham, England. These pistols are quite beautiful and are decorated with a lot of silver. The barrels are in the cannon style and they do unthread for loading. Loading the breech directly, as opposed to loading via the muzzle, allows the shooter to use a larger ball for better gas seal and is therefore more efficient. These were originally made as flintlocks and converted to the much more reliable percussion firing system circa 1840s. Visible just forward of the percussion nipples are the narrow channels that have been sealed and brazened shut.

One of the most attractive features of these pistols is the nicely carved and silver wire inlaid walnut stock. The other feature is the fancy silver pommel caps in the shape of a wizened, bearded old man. The pommels bear Birmingham silver maker hallmarks, including that of an anchor and a lion. There is also a rectangular marking that appears to be “CF”, and is likely the silversmith’s personal mark. The “crown/P” and “crown/V” proofs on the bottom of the breech are also of Birmingham origin. Frame and trigger guard are engraved. “I. Bastard”, the maker is engraved on the left side of each gun.

Both specimens are in fine condition. Barrels unthread easily. Bores are smooth and clean. Actions are strong and excellent. These really are beautiful examples and would look great on display.

This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.

Barrel is 3-1/4 inches in length (from muzzle to threads).

Caliber: .50 percussion

Bore is smooth in very good condition. The firearm is in excellent working order.

Overall condition as seen in photos.

Here are two matching pistols that have managed to stick together for over two centuries. Continue the tradition and conserve them.
