These were made by the company of H. Merrill in Baltimore, Maryland in the 1860s, with a total production of 14,500. These carbines are known to have been allocated to the following cavalry regiments: NY 1st, 5th and 18th; Pennsylvania 11th, 17th, and 18th; NJ 1st; Indiana 7th; Wisconsin 1st and 3rd; Kentucky 27th; and finally the Delaware 1st. This specimen is in very good condition. The stock is very nice and shows a bit of handling but is smooth, sound and well kept. Barrel, lock and saddle ring bar have an even dark patina. Front sight not present. Serial numbers match. Bore is in good condition. Action is very good. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.
