Description:
WWII Nazi Police Mauser Luger Pistol w HJ Knife

Dated 1942 with Scarce Nazi Police Eagle/L Marking

Here we present a Mauser Luger Pistol, made during the Second World War in 1942. In spite of the Treaty of Versailles, which placed limitations on barrel length, caliber and quantities, Germany and its small arms makers turned to secret coded designations for their manufacturers. Under this guise the German military was thus well-armed by the start of the Second World War. After the war began, companies began placing their logos on the pistols again. To say that many went to the military would be an understatement, but the police force in Germany still needed small arms as well.

This is one such example of a Luger purchased by German police, the Ordnungspolizei. Starting in 1936, the Nazi government and party centralized what was once called the Landespolizei—a conglomerate of regionally based departments across Germany—as well as all law enforcement and emergency response organizations under the Ministry of the Interior. This ministry was run by Heinrich Himmler himself. Increasingly throughout the war, SS influence and control of the Orpo helped seal the party’s stronghold on the entire nation. Not only did the Orpo tend to matters of law enforcement, but it was highly involved in the security of the railways, post, radio, manufacturing and other infrastructure. It also aided in the search for Jews outside of the ghettos and concentration camps and provided security for the ghettos and camps.

This specimen is marked with the “Eagle/L” police acceptance mark on the right side of the frame. This pistol also features a type of safety that is only found on the police contract pistols. This can be seen on the left side and is a small pinned spring that prevents a disassembled gun from firing by blocking the sear. The “MAUSER” logo is on the top of the toggle. The year “1942” is stamped on the breech of the frame. The safety is marked “GESICHERT” and the loaded chamber indicator “GELADEN”.
The overall condition of this pistol is fine. Markings are clear and legible. The grips are in fine condition with sharp checkering and matching numbers. All numbers match. The bore is fine and the action is excellent.

This fine pistol also comes with a very nice Hitlerjugend knife. These were issued to boys in the Hitler Youth, ages 14 to 18. It is sharp and meant to be used. Both the knife and scabbard are of sturdy construction, but it is also a good-looking tool. The blade is acid etched with “BLUT UND EHRE”, Blood and Honor, the motto of the HJ. The scales bear the emblem of the Nazi youth organization, the red and white diamond with a swastika in the center. The maker’s markings on the obverse are “J.A.HENCKELS.SOLINGEN/ZWILLINGSWERK” and “GES.GESCHÜTZT”. This knife is in fine condition. This would make a fine set for your collection.
