Description:

This Colt has matching serial numbers on frame, trigger guard, and backstrap.  The gate number 469 also appears on rear of the frame.  The unusually nice grips fit perfectly as if original, with both showing almost no wear to checkering.  The gun cocks crisply and locks up with superb tightness, almost as if a new gun.  Both the safety and half cock notches are functional (not broken) and in the correct places, so hammer needs no re-building.  When hammer is drawn back slowly, the cylinder rotates until lock bolt pops into its lock notch.  When placed on half cock, with the gate opened, each chamber clicks to the center of the loading port.  It could not be better timed or lock up much tighter.  (Rest assured that 90% of Colt SAA’s being offered have broken hammer notches, also broken/worn trigger sears, requiring $150+ in repairs and six months waiting for work completion)!! The hammer knurl and firing pin are correct for this serial range.

All markings are deep and clear, including the serial numbers, barrel address, patent dates, circled rampant Colt, “32 W.C.F.” on side of barrel, the viewed-proved triangle on front left trigger bow, and the “W” inspector’s mark on left rear bow.

This gun retains generous traces of original blue, with the balance being a pleasing smooth dark grey.  The cylinder has about 5% blue, the barrel 10 to 15%, ejector housing 30%, trigger guard 5%, and backstrap 2%.  The backstrap and trigger guard screws retain much original fire blue, and have decent screw slots (only showing minor distortion from a screw driver).  The frame and hammer case colors have faded, leaving shades of medium to dark gray.

The bore has strong lands and grooves, with scattered areas of pitting.  On a scale of 1 to 10, I would call this one a 6 bore condition (better than most 32-20’s).  The cylinder chambers are generally smooth with no pitting (note: gun grease is seen in chambers, not reamer or drill rotary marks).  The steel front sight remains in its original 0.52” x 0.24” tall configuration with blue on both sides.  Of course, the 32-20 caliber Colt SAA’s were produced with smaller sights than the larger calibers.  The ejector head is perfectly straight and fits nicely to the underside of barrel.  Amazingly no one beat up the bottom of the barrel in trying to pull the cylinder pin with a pair of plyers!  And thus the underside of barrel shows smooth shiny blue, fading toward the muzzle.  The cylinder pin appears to be an old replacement, as it shows far more wear than expected (easily upgraded with a new pin, if desired).

Overall this is a superior Colt SAA in 32-20 caliber, and with the more desirable 7-1/2” barrel.
