This is a Whitney 1841 Mississippi Rifle. The rifle someone tried to sporterize or something? The trigger is stuck due to corrosion so the hammer falls. The bore looks to be ok there is rifling in it. There are two dates on it. 1850 and 1852. It is stamped Whitney.
