Description:
MINT WW1 OR WWI COLT U.S. 1911 .45ACP PISTOL WITH WW2 ARMY ORDNANCE DEPT. PROVENANCE. Serial number "229XXX", CIRCA 1918. Belonged to and descended in the family of an officer who served during WWI as well as worked for the Army Ordnance Dept in Detroit(Heavy Ordnance HQ) overseeing tank manufacture during WWII. Direct from grand daughter and accompanied by a signed handwritten letter (and typed one) and his zinc dogtag from WW1. All matching. The pistol itself is in 97% original condition overall. Just about all of it's original brushed blue. NO holster wear so typical of non combat officer's sidearm. With lanyard loop at butt. Correct type 4 Colt two tone magazines excellent. Crisp markings overall and unturned screws as well as crisply struck checkered original walnut grips. Gilbert Stewart proof at triggerguard. Crisp "United States Property" forward of triggerguard. Correct blue black barrel with vertical "P" and "H" viewed from ejection port and "5" at base of lug. Sideways "A" or "Y" on right side of lug. All other parts correct and matching. No doubt as to it's internals as don’t think ever taken apart but once and mainspring is tight as the day it was made. Both accompanying half dipped blue magazines from the same period and in original "1917/Mills" dbl mag pouch that’s been with it all these years. Pristine condition overall including the Mills mag pouch and would make a nice addition to any WWI or WWII collection. Found a lot of information on GI online within ten minutes so more to look up and research. From a local family recently so never before been seen for sale.
