Description:
Desirable and Original Antique: US Springfield Trapdoor Saddle Ring Carbine. Great shape overall: The wood is proud to the metal and in very good condition. The metal is clean and all markings visible - orginal finish is at 80+% and bore is clean with good rifling.  This rifle has not been test fired - but does appear shootable - must check with a licensed gunsmith before trying to fire this.

$1450 plus insured shipping.

Excerpted from Jan 2011 American Rifleman: ...the 22-inch-barreled .45-70 Gov’t Trapdoor Carbines command the most interest and value, due to their association with the U.S. Cavalry and the taming of the American West. Trapdoor carbines were also used in the Spanish-American War, and refurbished arms were issued to National Guard units as late as the 1920s. Carbines were fitted with a stock-mounted bar and saddle ring, to be hooked to a leather sling worn diagonally across a trooper’s body. There were 60,912 carbines made from 1873 to 1893.

Apologies for the poor quality photos - new pics to be posted shortly...
